Photometrics® Showcases its Evolve “Intelligent” EMCCD Bio-imaging Camera and New Online Scientific Imaging Tools at Neuroscience Meeting 2009
October 18, 2009
Chicago, IL — Photometrics, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance CCD and EMCCD cameras for the life sciences, showcases its revolutionary Evolve camera and innovative, online scientific imaging resource center at the Society for Neuroscience‘s (SfN) annual meeting, booth 1408.
Evolve EMCCD Camera
At the exhibition, experienced Photometrics representatives will demonstrate how the Evolve camera enables scientists to truly achieve reproducible, quantitative imaging data by measuring that data in absolute units--the photoelectron.
EMCCD as well as CCD cameras report imaging data in Analog-to-Digital Units, which are arbitrary. These ADUs (called “grey scale units” in Europe) are completely dependent on the camera’s gain settings, which vary between manufacturers and even camera to camera. In most cases, manufacturers do not measure or reveal these gain values at each setting (Photometrics has always provided this information with every camera purchased—a “certificate of performance” is provided with every camera purchased).
Because the measurement unit in scientific cameras is not standardized, researchers cannot reliably compare imaging data or reproduce their results between, or even within their own labs. The Evolve makes this possible.
Online Scientific Imaging Tools
Photometrics is dedicated to advancing the speed of scientific discovery by delivering imaging innovations to the research community. The company has developed a series of online imaging calculators, tools and whitepapers to help researchers streamline and quantify their imaging results. These online tools are available free of charge at www.evolve-emccd.com/calculators. Photometrics will demonstrate these tools at SfN this week.
