Single-Molecule Fluorescence (SMF) Imaging

In order to minimize any effects that fluorophores may themselves make on the system being studied, many bio-researchers are seeking to reduce the concentration of fluorescent molecules used to label samples. Some researchers have chosen to track events at the single-molecule level.
