RSConfig Release Notes

New Features and Bug Fixes

RSConfig has been released to remedy an issue with the RSConfig program packaged with PVCAM

When more than one camera is installed on a computer, the RSConfig program packaged with PVCAM configures the pvcam.ini file such that each camera has an entry of Port=0. Thus, any software used to control the cameras is unable to access the second camera.

RSConfig resolves this issue by setting Port=0 for the first camera and Port=1 for the second camera. Please refer to the Additional Notes section for more details.

Requirements and Usage Notes

Note: You do not have to uninstall the previous version of RSConfig.

To install this version:

1. Download the file.
2. Unzip the file.
3. Copy the RSConfig.exe and RSSetup.dll files to the folder where RSConfig is currently installed (/program files/roper scientific/pvcam/rsconfig/). You will be replacing the existing copies of the files with the new ones.

Additional Notes

If you are having difficulty running two Photometrics cameras on the same computer, please read this section.

Problem Description: PVCAM does not allow users to select between two PCI cameras installed on the same computer when using Win XP.

Problem Source: The RSConfig.exe file installed as part of the PVCAM installation does not configure the pvcam.ini file correctly for computers with more than one camera installed.

Problem Solution: RSConfig fixes the problem.

Prior to the release of RSConfig, when two PCI cameras were installed on the same computer the pvcam.ini file generated looked like the one shown in Figure 1. Note that both camera entries have Port=0.

Figure 1. Listing of pvcam.ini file with two PCI cameras installed (generated by previous version of RSConfig).

When the pvcam.ini file has this configuration, camera 1 (LVDS 1) will operate normally. Attempting to access camera 2 (LVDS 2), however, will produce an error. Figure 2 gives an example of an error message generated by RS Image.

With the release of RSConfig, the pvcam.ini file generated will look like the one shown in Figure 3. Different cameras can be selected without error.
